It is a privilege to take over as Chair of the Clinical Working Party and I look forward to working with many of you. For those of you who don’t know me, I am a clinical academic Immunologist working at University College London (UCL) and the Royal Free London Hospital. I previously trained in Paediatric Immunology before moving to the adult clinic about 8 years ago, where I lead the young adult programme. My research group at UCL is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that cause PID and in particular investigating the functional impact of genetic variants found in our patients to improve diagnosis and treatment.
Over the next 4 years, the CWP will focus on producing best practice guidance and promoting clinical research as well as working with the Educational and Junior WPs to provide education and support the next generation of Clinical Immunologists. There will soon be a call for expressions of interest for Steering Committee membership. I see the role of the Steering Committee as overseeing the CWP program of work and widely engaging the ESID community to be involved in specific projects. We will actively seek to work with juniors and patient representatives for manuscript preparation and educational events.
I would like to sincerely thank Andy Gennery for his leadership of the group over the past 4 years and ongoing commitment as we prepare for the focused Secondary Immunodeficiency meeting in 2021 - watch out for more information!
