ESID Position Statement

We at ESID continue to be shocked and angered by the unimaginable sufferance of the Ukrainian people caused by the senseless and cruel violence of the Russian invasion. We condemn this unprovoked aggression in the strongest possible terms.

We have considered severing ties with Russian nationals and institutions associated with ESID as members or counterparts in other society activities in sign of protest. However, we also believe that our society’s mission to contribute to improve the understanding of primary immunodeficiency diseases transcends political boundaries and that such effort should persevere through these tragic times. Therefore, the ESID Board decided that, at this time, it will not take proactive steps to exclude Russian colleagues from ESID membership, nor from participation in ESID schools and scientific meetings. Nevertheless, the ESID Board wishes to reaffirm its undivided support for Ukraine and to state that it will not welcome the participation in ESID activities of individuals and organisations that do not similarly reject the ongoing war waged by Russia on the Ukrainian people.
