ESID 2024 Fellowships

ESID Fellowships are a great way not only to finance your projects in the field of PIDs but also to expand your professional network, exchange knowledge, increase your expertise and move your career to a new level. Through an ESID Fellowship, you can find new opportunities and start new collaborative projects.

 

Short-term fellowship & Medium-term Fellowship

These ESID Fellowships are designed to provide financial support to physicians or scientists in training interested in learning diagnostic/therapeutic procedures or lab techniques in the field of Primary Immunodeficiencies.

 

ELIGIBILITY to apply for ESID fellowships Short-term fellowship & Medium-term fellowship:

  • Be an ESID Junior Member 
  • Be accepted by a hosting institution for the proposed training goals (arrangements must be made by the applicant)
  • The fellowship stay must start after the application deadline

 

Short-term fellowship - EUR 1'500 (plus travel support up to EUR 500)

Duration: Each short-term program should last between 1-2 months.

Funding: ESID is awarding EUR 1'500€ plus up to EUR 500 as travel support, to be used for the personal expenses of the candidate during laboratory or clinical research work.

100% of the amount will be received at the beginning of the fellowship. Travel costs can be claimed after the completion of the fellowship and approval of the final report from the ESID office.

Medium-term fellowship - EUR 1'000 per month (plus travel support up to EUR 500)

Duration: Each fellowship should last at least 3 months up to 6 monthsThere is a possibility to extend the fellowship (to final amount of 6 months)  if needed upon presentation of valid reasons from awardee and his/her mentors. 

Funding: ESID is awarding EUR 1'000 per month of your stay plus up to EUR 500 as travel support, to be used for the personal expenses of the candidate during laboratory or clinical research work.

50% of the amount will be received in the beginning of the fellowship and the remainder will be paid upon the submission and approval of the final report. Travel costs can be claimed after the completion of the fellowship and approval of the final report from the ESID office

 

APPLICATIONS: 

The application should include: 

  1. Application form - please, download the application form  here.
  2. Curriculum Vitae with special highlight on list of publications/meeting communications of PID.
  3. Letter of invitation from the accepting institution. 
  4. Letter of support from the applicant’s head of department or supervisor. Please, note that a head of department or supervisor can provide a letter of support only to 1 candidate.

FINAL REPORT:
Awardees are expected to submit a complete report to ESID within a maximum of 3 months after the end of the program.

Bridge Grant Fellowship

ESID wants to invest in the future of researchers and clinicians committed to PIDs.  Therefore ESID Bridge Grants aim to allow trainees working on PIDs to continue their activity in the field of PID in their institution or another institution during short periods of time until they can find other financial sources, thus avoiding the interruption of their training process.

Bridge Grant fellowship - EUR 1'500 per month

Duration: Each bridge grant program should be up to a maximum of 6 months.

Funding: ESID is awarding EUR 1'500€/month during a maximum of 6 months.

ELIGIBILITY to apply for ESID fellowships Bridge Grant fellowship:

Inclusion criteria:

  • Be an ESID Junior Member (you must be under 35 or between 35 and 40 in training, but age will not be an absolute limit)
  • Be accepted by the current institution or another institution for the proposed training goals on projects directly related to PIDs research (arrangements must be made by the applicant)

Exclusion criteria:

    • Applicants with other funding sources will be excluded from the selection process.
    • Applicants who have never received any other funding from ESID will be prioritized.

 

APPLICATION:

Selected applicants will sign an agreement document prior to receiving the first payment. Such agreement document will include the following:

  • Awardees are expected to submit a complete report to ESID within a maximum of 3 months after the end of the program. Please, find here the  ESID End of Fellowship report template , complete it and send it to the ESID office at:   . Please, note that once approved, the report will be published on the ESID website, under the  Reports section.
  • Publications derived from the studies on the granted projects must include ESID as a funding source.
  • Should the successful applicant accept a non-ESID funded position during this period, any remaining funds will be returned to ESID.

 

Applications have to be sent to   with a single PDF file containing the following documents:

  1. a personal letter with a statement of career goals that reflect the involvement of the applicant in the field of PIDs  (including a description of grants and funding that has been requested or are intended to be requested in the near future)
  2. a short project plan (explaining what has been done and what will be done in the future)
  3. CV with a list of publications in the field of PID
  4. a letter of support from the applicant’s head of department or supervisor
